SURFING
IS IT OK IF I AM A BEGINNER?
All skill levels are welcome at Bocas Surf School & Guesthouse and it is more than ok to be a beginner. We work with small groups so each class has a lot of 1-on-1 time. Feel free to ask out surf instructors any questions you have about surfing.
WHAT SIZE ARE THE WAVES?
Waves are suitable to a wide-range of surfers and our surf instructors will always make sure you’re riding waves suitable to your level. If you’re a beginner, they will take you to the best spots where you can easily stand and learn the basics to surfing.
HOW DO WE REACH THE WAVES?
Straight from our surf school we will leave on our private boat. During your entire surf class or surf trip the boat will stay with you. Feel free to bring drinks, snacks, towels, camera gear and know that we will always be with you. If your tired, just go hang out on the boat until the rest of the camp is ready to return.
WILL I GET ENOUGH ATTENTION FROM THE COACH?
Our small groups guarantee lots of 1-on-1 time with your surf instructor.
I ALREADY KNOW THE BASICS. WILL I BE STUCK RELEARNING?
No, but if you’re in need of a quick refresher please feel free to ask any questions you like to our team. If your knowledge is fresh our guides will take you to the best surf breaks around after considering the surf conditions.
WHAT IF THERE’S BAD WEATHER?
No worries, where there’s a will there’s a way. Some of the most memorable surf sessions have been when its raining and don’t be bummed about not being able to document the experience.
CAN I BRING MY OWN EQUIPMENT?
Absolutely, but please let us know during the booking process.
WHAT’S THE USUAL AGE GROUP?
18-35, but in learning to surf there’s no such thing as “too early” or “too late”.
STAYING WITH US
WHAT IS THE GUESTHOUSE LIKE?
It has full amenities. Toilets, hot showers etc. Located over-the-sea this small unique guesthouse is located in the most tranquilo section of Bocas Town.
Our rooms are quiet and provide a safe, comfortable environment for travelers interested in discovering Bocas del Toro.
WHAT SHOULD I PACK?
- Good vibes
- Bikinis/ Board shorts/ Rash guards
- Rain Jacket/ Umbrella
We will provide you with everything else: surfboard, transportation, and lodging.
HOW MUCH SHOULD I BRING FOR FOOD?
We have a complete kitchen and you can always buy food and prepare in the kitchen your meals.
If you decide to eat out breakfasts can run anywhere from $5-$10, lunch $4-$15, and dinner $7 and higher. $15-$20 a day for food is more than enough for one person.
WHAT’S THERE TO DO WHEN WE’RE NOT SURFING?

CAN WE BUY/DRINK ALCOHOL AT THE GUESTHOUSE?
The simple answer is ‘Yes & Yes’.
You can bring it with you or buy it at the local store. It’s up to you. Please respect guests at the guesthouse, we are not a party place and most visitors would like a good sleep for an early surf session.

WHERE ARE WE LOCATED AND HOW DO WE GET THERE?
We are located on North Ave. between Mamallena Hostel and Hotel Vista Mar. Farther up is Twin Fin Hostel, we are behind them up the road a bit, over-the-sea. If you find it hard to get to our office, no worries. Just give us a call and we will try to work something out for you. (see map below)
CAN I EXTEND MY TRIP?
Yes of course you can! Just let us know!
WHAT IF I NEED TO CANCEL OR CHANGE MY RESERVATION?
No problem! Just email us and let us know to see if we have availability for your new dates. If you need to shorten or cancel your trip and it’s 5 days prior to your date of your scheduled arrival, you will be responsible for the cost of your entire stay. If you come back at a later time we will extend a credit to you (with you being responsible for any difference in price per night). If you make your reservation less than 72 hours before your arrival date, you have 24 hours to cancel or alter your reservation without any penalty. After 24 hours, you will be responsible for the entire balance of your reservation. There will be a 5% processing fee added to the total cost of your stay for any charges placed on your card due to violation of these cancelation terms and policies.
